Controller simplifies camera integration
The OmniVision OV529 single-chip mobile camera controller is a low cost, low power and high resolution device for mobile phone/PDA integration suitable for high volume applications.
The OmniVision OV529 single-chip mobile camera controller is a low cost, low power and high resolution device for mobile phone/PDA integration suitable for high volume applications.
The single-chip mobile camera controller is most beneficial for PDA and mobile phone manufacturers, videophones, industrial tablet PCs, handheld gaming and security camera applications.
The OV529 can be integrated into mobile/PDA systems along with one of OmniVision CMOS image sensors and the system functions as a video camera or a JPEG-compressed stills camera.
The mobile/PDA system is the host and the OV529 system serves as a slave.
The host uses SCCB (Serial Camera Control Bus) to command the OV529 and image data is output over serial or parallel interface.
Images from the camera can be previewed through an LCD before taking a picture.
OmniVision digital image sensors up to VGA resolution are supported.
The 49-pin or 64 pin BGA device supports power supplies of 1.8V for core and 3.3V for I/O, with its low power operating modes making it ideal for power sensitive battery-reliant applications such as PDAs and mobile phones.
TDC's Managing Director Jerry Sandys comments: "Integrating CMOS imaging devices appears daunting, but this device takes out all of the complication, reducing design effort required to a simple serial interface".
