SMD thyristor silicon surge protectors (TSSs) are rated up to 500V VCL in a package measuring 3.75 x 5.1 x 2.0mm.
Silicon surge protection devices have very low clamping voltage and superior reliability compared with previous generation GDT or MOV protectors.
For protection of line-connected devices against electrostatic discharge and other transient voltage surges, these devices reduce the cost and form factor of telecomms and networking CPE such as modem interfaces and terminal equipment.
The small SM outline and high current rating deliver reliable surge protection in digital terminal equipment including DSUs or Cat 5 LAN protectors, or in modem interface protectors including xDSL modems and POTS/xDSL splitter interfaces.
Further potential applications include primary protection for exchanges and PBXs, or deployment in optical network units (ONUs).
