RS announces first demonstration of its EDP

RS Components will display its Embedded Development Platform (EDP) for the first time at this year's Electronica.

The EDP is a manufacturer-independent universal development tool for rapid prototype development of microcontroller-driven designs.

At Electronica, RS Components will use the RS EDP to manage the power to the demo area and to control the counter display.

Other applications on display will include Neurorobotics' Neuroarm, which has been integrated into a mobile robot by using the RS EDP.

The EDP contains a re-usable baseboard, a combination of up to four CPU modules and up to four application modules.

It offers a standard platform where designers can evaluate different microcontrollers and applications for prototype development independently from manufacturers.

In the past, electronic design engineers would have to purchase a development kit, which was specific to one microcontroller and generally not re-usable.

As engineers upgrade their equipment, the old development boards are discarded.

Interfacing the new software and hardware products to existing circuits is time consuming.
