Compact chip varistors replace TVS diodes
The LVS series is metal oxide base chip varistor for transient voltage suppression.
The LVS series is metal oxide base chip varistor for transient voltage suppression.
The devices have nonlinear voltage/current behaviour, similar to a Zener diode.
The LVS multilayer varistor however, shows superiority in electrical reliability to a Zener diode, as each grain in the body of the device exhibits small PN junction.
This construction gives the devices good clamping ratio and very low leakage Within the range is the very low clamping voltage of 3.3V, with a series of clamping voltages through to 28V in the 0402 chip size, also available are low-capacitance devices within the same chip size which makes them ideal for the protection of high speed data lines.
These are the smallest varistor devices available for their specification from any supplier.
Having high energy ratings of 1.5 to 0.05J make them ideal for voltage transient protection of all kinds ICs as well as ESD protection of I/O ports and are useful for achieving EMC compliance in electronic equipment.
The LVC series are available in chip sizes in the range of 0402 to 1206, a wide range of working voltages from 3.3 to 30V and maximum peak clamping currents of 20 to 150A depending on size.
These devices have excellent solderability, a wide operating temperature range of -55 to +125C and a high moisture resistance.
The full LVS series is now available from Rhopoint Components.
