New from Renesas Technology Europe is the H8S/2114F, a microcontroller which offers 1Mbyte embedded Flash - the highest level of Flash integration available on any general purpose MCU. The device also features a rich peripheral set and on-chip debug (OCD) to facilitate low-cost development. The H8S/2114F targets the broad H8 customer base in Europe as a memory upgrade device.
The H8 family is used in thousands of consumer and industrial applications across Europe, such as metering, white goods, healthcare products, motor control, building automation and electronic point of sale (EPOS).
The H8S/2114F features 8Kbyte RAM and a peripheral set with two serial ports including IrDA mode, two additional I2C channels, an eight-channel 10bit ADC and a data transfer controller (DTC) to offload data movement tasks from the CPU.
It also offers multiple timers, including a 14bit PWM and two watchdog timers, and has up to 106 IO lines and 13 input lines.

Microcontroller allows low-cost smart cards
Renesas Technology Europe's AE41R enables low-cost implementation of a contactless system compatible smart card offering a high level of user convenience and simple operator maintenance
The device operates at 3.3V/20MHz.
Owing to the single-cycle H8S CISC CPU, this clock yields 10MIPS dhrystone performance.
Several low power modes including clock gearing, sleep, subsleep, watch and standby ensure maximum battery life.
The H8S/2114F is available now in a compact (16 x 16mm) 144-pin TQFP package.
It is supported by Renesas Technology's low-cost OCD debugger E10A-USB (PCI or PCMCIA options available on request).
