The H8/38104F and H8/38124F series comprise a new generation of 5V microcontrollers with LCD drive capability

The devices offer an advanced feature set, for example an on-chip high-resolution 10bit A/D convertor with a wide sampling range, which combined with 5V operation makes them ideal for a variety of applications such as power meters, any type of electricity meter, industrial sensors and vehicle dashboard instruments.

Both series also offer a high level of integration, minimising external component count and reducing cost.

The H8/38104F and H8/38124F are based on a high performance H8/300L CPU core, which has extremely low power consumption.

The devices offer the added flexibility of 16 or 32Kbyte of on-chip single-supply Flash memory, allowing the easy reprogramming of the memory without any additional special circuitry.

This enables easy end-of-line programming, reducing customer inventory, and software updates or bug fixes in the field.

Both the 64-pin (H8/38104F) and 80-pin (H8/38124F) versions are also available with 8-32Kbyte of mask ROM.

The integration of an on-chip watchdog timer with dedicated on-chip oscillator, a power-on-reset circuit, low voltage detection (brown out) and an on-chip internal oscillator makes the H8/38104F easy to design within systems where reliability is an issue.

It also greatly reduces the external component count and hence system cost.

Timer A allows the easy design of an on-chip real time clock function, using the 32kHz clock oscillator.

The devices offer 32kHz subclock operation and come with a comprehensive peripheral set that includes: 25 x 4 (H838104F) or 32 x 4 (H838124F) LCD controller/driver; an on-chip oscillator; a 16bit timer; an asynchronous timer; two 10bit PWM channels; a choice of 8bit timer (H8/38104F) or three 8bit timer (H8/38124F); 512byte to 1Kbyte SRAM; an SCI interface; a four-channel (H8/38104F) or eight-channel (H8/38124F) 10bit A/D convertor; 50 (H8/38104F) or 66 (H8/38124F) I/O pins; POR, LVI and an on-chip debug interface.

The microcontrollers are supported by the E7 emulator.
