The SH-MobileL (SH7322) is the latest model in the SH-Mobile series of mobile phone application processors. The device offers the basic functions of the series for multimedia applications, such as voice and moving images, together with camera support functions, including on-chip support for a 2Mpixel camera. This enables a compact configuration and optimum performance at low cost.
It has been developed to meet the demand for multimedia features in popular mobile phone models at lower prices.
The SH-MobileL offers an excellent balance of functionality and performance for low cost by focusing on the optimum peripherals and configuration required for upcoming popular models of mobile phone.
The device is centred on support for high-definition cameras, allowing the direct connection of a 2Mpixel equivalent UXGA size (1600 x 1200pixel) camera module, which is expected to be standard in new mobile phones.
This makes it possible to capture and perform electronic-zoom display of high-definition images and enables versatile display features such as superimposed screens through OSD (on-screen display) and HWC (hardware cursor) functions.
The device is also equipped with interfaces essential for executing high-speed moving image processing, including an SDRAM interface.
The basic multimedia application processing functions include 32Kbyte on-chip RAM with single-cycle access capability and 32Kbyte CPU cache memory.
These memories enable high-speed application execution using Java programs, MPEG-4 moving image processing and MP3 or similar voice processing.
The new device incorporates the same SH3-DSP core as current SH-Mobile series products, offering a maximum operating frequency of 120MHz.
This means that software developed for the current series can be used by the SH-MobileL, enabling shorter system development times to be achieved.
A development platform equipped with a keyboard, small LCD panel, and ultraminiature camera is available, simplifying the development of various kinds of multimedia application programs.
The SH-MobileL connects to the baseband LSI of a mobile phone system and performs dedicated voice, image, or similar multimedia application processing.
A dedicated interface allows the processor to be used in various kinds of communication systems, including PDC (Personal Digital Cellular) in Japan, GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) in Europe, and IP telephony.
The SH-MobileL is available in a 281-pin CSP package that measures 9 x 11 x 1.4mm, with a 0.5mm pin pitch.
Sample shipments will begin in June 2004.
