A new CPU architecture promises revolutionary enhancements over previous generation MCUs while retaining compatibility with existing 16 and 32bit devices
The third channel of the new H8/36024F offers the ability to connect to devices such as EEPROMs for translation tables and configuration information. The device, which is the latest member of Renesas' H8/300H Tiny Series of microcontrollers, provides an ideal, low cost, high performance solution for applications such as serial buffers, gateways and protocol convertors.
The H8/36024F is also designed for applications where reliability is key, with a watchdog timer with its own on-chip oscillator and optional power-on-reset and low voltage detection systems.
It combines the high performance 16bit H8/300H Tiny CPU core with three high performance USARTs, capable of operating at up to 625kbaud in asynchronous (UART) mode and up to 4Mbit/s in synchronous mode.
The new microcontroller operates at a maximum frequency of 20MHz using a 3 to 5.5V power supply.

It offers a wide variety of on-chip peripherals, as well as the three on-chip USARTs.
It has a sophisticated 16bit timer as well as an 8bit timer, a 10bit analogue/digital convertor, and a number of high-current I/O pins.
The H8/36024F is available in two Flash versions, the H8/36024F with 32Kbyte of single supply on-chip Flash, and the H8/36022F with 16Kbyte of on-chip Flash.
The device incorporates Flash memory that can be programmed and erased with a single power supply.
A number of mask variants with mask sizes from 16 to 32Kbyte and a variety of SRAM sizes will also be available during 2003.
The new microcontroller is supported by the E6000, a real-time in-circuit emulator and the E10T, a low cost in-circuit debugging system.
The E6000 has 4Mbyte of emulation RAM, 256 PC break points and 12 cascadable and complex hardware break points (events).
It also includes a 32Kcycle and 80bit wide trace buffer with acquisition and display filtering, execution time measurement and four user logic probes, which can also be used to trigger hardware events.
The E10T is Renesas's low cost on-chip debugging solution for the H8/36024F.
The E10T uses the on-chip debug facility of the H8/36024F to provide the user with the ability to fully debug their application in the target system.
The device is available as a 64-pin 10 x 10mm quad flat package (QFP) or alternatively as a 10 x 10 or 7 x 7mm 48-pin QFP.
