Microcontroller shinks to metering applications
The H8/38004F MCU offers extremely low power consumption together with 32Kbyte single-supply on-chip Flash memory and is the first in the SLP series that is available in a 64-pin quad flatpack
The device is ideal for many battery-powered, line-powered and metering applications. The H8/38004F uses the high performance H8/300L CPU core and has an operating voltage of 2.2 to 3.6V. The device offers fast oscillator startup, typically about 20us using an external resonator. This makes it ideal for applications that need to spend the majority of time asleep in the lowest power modes and then awaken to take readings or to communicate.

Water and gas meters, as well as many automated meter-reading solutions (AMR) using low power RF or powerline, are typical examples.
The device's high-resolution eight-channel 10bit A/D convertor with a wide sampling range also makes it suitable for such metering applications.
The microcontroller features an asynchronous timer and 32kHz clock oscillator that allows the easy design of an on-chip real-time clock function.
This makes it ideal for battery-powered applications that count pulses and need to keep a clock function with an average power consumption of around 1uA.
The on-chip watchdog timer also makes the device easy to use in systems where reliability is an issue.
The Flash memory can be easily reprogrammed without any additional special circuitry, allowing easy end of line programming that reduces customer inventory and software updates or bug fixes in the field.
The H8/38004F offers a complete peripheral set that includes a 10MHz clock oscillator, one 16bit and three 8bit timers, a USART, a 25 x 4 LCD drive, and 37 I/O pins.
It also features 512byte to 2Kbyte of SRAM and is available with 8 to 32Kbyte of ROM.
The device is supported by the E10T emulator and E6-3800R development tool.
