Pulsar Electronics has a new industry-leading surge protection device for one power line and four signal lines that carry signals up to 1GHz. Featuring an extremely low capacitance of only 3pF, the RClamp0504M miniature voltage surge protector maintains signal integrity while protecting high-speed interfaces of sensitive integrated circuits, which are vulnerable to damaging transient events that can enter through external plug ports. The RClamp0504M integrates four surge-rated, low capacitance steering diodes and an avalanche TVS diode.

The steering diodes are configured to protect up to four high-speed signal lines by clamping the lines to a fixed reference voltage, the transient current is steered away from sensitive circuitry downstream.

The TVS diode can be used to prevent an overvoltage condition on the positive power supply rail.

The robust new device also offers low leakage current to help maintain signal integrity.

Its very low clamping voltage prevents latch up and cumulative degradation of protected circuits.

The device can also withstand repeated voltage surges without being damaged.

The RClamp0504M features: a 5V working voltage; ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection compliant with IEC61000-4-2, Level 4 (greater than 15kV); high surge capability (12A, 8/20us); and a JEDEC 10-lead MSOP surface mount package that requires very little board space.

The device is also configured to simplify board layout.

The package and pin layout enable designers to use a "flow-through" design, routing high-speed signal traces without changing trace spacing or routing angles - a feature of particular importance in routing DVI and other differential, multicomponent signals.

Optimised for protecting data signal rates from 100MHz to more than 1GHz, the RClamp0504M is perfect for DVI (Digital Video Interface) and HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) used in high definition and plasma televisions as well as USB, gigabit Ethernet and Firewire systems such as set-top boxes, DVD players, computer peripherals, networking gear and industrial control systems.

The RClamp0504M is now fully available from Pulsar Electronics.
