Recognising that an integrated software ecosystem is now a key part of Philips' vision to make mobile multimedia simple for its customers, the company has introduced the Nexperia Partner Programme for Mobile applications.
At the show, Philips will demonstrate how it is enabling the next generation of mobile applications, including TV on the mobile, video messaging and music and video recording and playback.
Consumers are continually replacing their mobile phones with models that include the latest features, whilst at the same time the development cycle for mobile devices is getting shorter.
As the line between the consumer electronics and mobile worlds continues to blur, Philips' Nexperia portfolio encompasses both environments, making it the ideal catalyst for the next generation of converged devices.
Philips' Nexperia Cellular System Solutions simplify the design of multimedia handsets, offering the fastest and most cost-effective way to get mobile phones to market.

Providing all the hardware and software components that a handset needs, these solutions dramatically reduce time-to-market for new phones.
The Nexperia Partner Programme for Mobile applications will further enhance Philips' feature rich Nexperia Mobile portfolio by presenting mobile phone manufacturers with a simple solution to the complex issue of integration.
The programme enables independent software vendors (ISVs) and integrators to deliver middleware, applications and reference designs to complement the company's Nexperia Mobile family.
Through the programme, partners can port software applications to both open operating system (OS)-based Nexperia System Solutions as well as solutions based on Philips' own OS, reducing time to market on a range of platforms.
For the rapidly growing smartphone market Philips has introduced the Nexperia Cellular System Solution 9000 family.
A complete smartphone system solution based on the open source Linux OS, it includes an application engine dedicated to sophisticated multimedia functions, a telecomms modem, and a broadcast and connectivity subsystem.
The company has also collaborated with ARM to offer a complete development kit for the market-leading Nexperia Cellular System Solution 6120.
The Nexperia Mobile Developer Kit (NMDK) makes integrating multimedia applications into a mobile phone simple, significantly reducing time-to-market for Philips' customers.
These two additions to the Nexperia Mobile portfolio bring 'plug and play' capabilities to application integration, opening up opportunities for Philips' partners and customers.
Philips has also introduced its first dual mode UMTS/Edge Nexperia Cellular System Solution 7130.
The solution integrates all the critical components required to simplify multimedia-rich UMTS and Edge/GPRS handsets so that they can be manufactured cost-effectively to meet the increasing demand for 3G services.
Philips continues to build on its strong customer relationships with leading manufacturers.
At 3GSM Philips has announced that as a result of a long-standing partnership with Bird, the leading domestic Chinese manufacturer, Bird will develop its first Edge-enabled handset on a Philips Nexperia Cellular System Solution.
The solution offers Bird the opportunity to deliver integrated, cost-effective handsets to its rapidly expanding customer base, at home and abroad.
Building on another established partnership, Sony Ericsson has selected Philips' new PNX4008 advanced multimedia processor for future symbian OS phones products.
Sony Ericsson, who has already deployed previous generations of the processor in its successful P800/P900/P910 smartphone family, will benefit from the sophisticated video, graphics, imaging, audio and security functions the PNX4008 provides.
Philips pioneered the Nexperia Cellular System Solution approach in 1999, and continues to provide its customers with complete solutions that incorporate leading-edge technology.
The developments in the Nexperia Mobile portfolio that Philips has unveiled at the 3GSM World Congress 2005 will benefit customers, simplifying the design of advanced multimedia handsets, and consumers, who will be able to connect to exciting applications and multimedia content at any time, anywhere.
