Pacer offers red laser diode for pico projectors
Mitsubishi Electric has launched a 638nm red laser diode with 500mW output power for pico projector applications and other portable display systems requiring a high-brightness red light source.
Available from Pacer, the ML520G72's output power of 500mW helps with the design of high-luminous LD-based projectors and can provide a luminous flux of up to 60 lumens (lm).

Available from Pacer, Mitsubishi Electric is introducing a new red laser diode with 500mW Output Power
Current LED-based projectors typically offer about 10lm, according to Mitsubishi Electric.
The ML520G72 is said to offer conversion efficiency from electrical to optical power of 32 per cent at 500mW and at a case temperature of 25C.
This helps to reduce power consumption and extend battery lifetime.
Over the temperature range of -5C to +40C, the ML250G72 can produce up to 500mW of continuous wave (CW) power.
The device can provide pulsed laser light of 600mW at 50C when operating with a maximum duty cycle of 25 per cent at frequencies of at least 50Hz.
For CW operation at 25C, the threshold current is 170mA.
The operating current at 500mW/2.3V is 680mA.
The red laser diode is integrated into a standard 5.6 CAN package.
