Microbridge Technologies has released an application note showing users a simple, low-cost technique to make an ultra-precise 5V voltage reference.

Microbridge was able to achieve an initial accuracy of better than 0.003 per cent while maintaining <1ppm/C temperature stability over the 0C to +85C temperature range, using a low-cost, off-the-shelf reference device.

The work stemmed from informal cooperation between Microbridge Technologies and Analog Devices application engineers to demonstrate how an external rejustor, the MBT143E, can significantly influence the performance of the ADR425A precision voltage reference from ADI.

The application comprises a total of three components, the ADR425A reference, the MBT143E rejustor and a 120K ohm resistor.
