Motorola Computer Group has launched the ComStruct CPCI/C6410, a powerful new voice and data processing engine for packet-based applications that form the backbone of the converged network

Motorola Computer Group has launched the ComStruct CPCI/C6410, a powerful new voice and data processing engine for the packet-based applications that form the backbone of the converged network. This third generation of the successful ComStruct CompactPCI C6000 platform is designed to handle the dataflows and processing needs of resilient multichannel applications such as 3G wireless media gateways, voice archiving and value-added network-based services including unified messaging, conferencing and fax services.

The ComStruct CPCI/C6410 provides connectivity that complies with PICMG standards, including the new PICMG 2.16 IP-based backplane communications standard.

This enables it to be integrated with Motorola Computer Group's recently announced HXP H.110 intelligent packet transport platform and ComStruct telecom subsystem management software to provide a significant part of a solution for gateway and wireless applications.

The ComStruct CPCI/C6410 also provides ATM connectivity for applications in 3G wireless infrastructure or fixed line networks.

The ComStruct CPCI/C6410 features eight TMS320C6203 digital signal processors from Texas Instruments, each with 16Mbyte SDRAM, and a Motorola MPC8260 controller configured as a communications processor and supported by up to 192Mbyte SDRAM and 4Mbyte Flash memory.

A BiFIFO link acts as a high bandwidth data route to increase determinism and minimise latency between the DSPs and the communications processor.

Alternatively, this link can be used to transport external data directly into the DSPs for baseband processing applications.

When implemented as a voice and data processing engine in applications such as unified messaging and contact centre archiving, the ComStruct CPCI/C6410 is engineered to provide up to 160 channels of G.723.1 or G.729 compression with echo cancellation.

When applied in a wireless media gateway solution, this new ComStruct engine is designed to provide more than 128 channels of GSM-AMR transcode (including framing and echo cancellation) or more than 90 channels of EVRC transcode (IS127) in a single CompactPCI slot.

The architecture of the ComStruct CPCI/C6410 is compatible with earlier generation ComStruct C6000 platforms, so developers can easily and quickly upgrade or expand the resources available to their applications.

The platform is architected to leverage FACT, Motorola Computer Group's telecom subsystem management software, which helps to significantly reduce development time and free developers to focus on innovating at the application level.

The ComStruct CPCI/C6410 is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of this year.

Pricing is expected to be GBP 23 per port in OEM quantity volumes for applications such as wireless transcoding and Motorola Computer Group sees a continuing trend of reducing port costs for its customers.
