Matsushita Electronic Components is to offer AutoActive technology for the Maco PCB ALIVHR (printed circuit board any layer interstitial via hole) design kit for Mentor Graphics Expedition PCB, Board Station RE and SFX RE users. ALIVH is a key PCB technology that makes it possible to reduce the size of cellular phones.

Mentor Graphics and Maco jointly endorse AutoActive as the industry standard PCB layout technology that enables ALIVH to improve the productivity of their mutual customers.

Through Mentor's OpenDoorSM program, Maco now has qualified Mentor products using AutoActive technology to support and test its advanced ALIVH manufacturing process.

"More and more cellular phone manufacturers are selecting ALIVH for decreasing the size of cellular phones and increasingly using Mentor's AutoActive technology to quicken time to design", said Naohiro Inui, team leader of products engineering group, printed circuit board business unit, network device company, Maco.

"Therefore, this partnership is a natural collaboration and we feel confident that AutoActive is one of the best technologies for advanced PCB design today".

ALIVH is sophisticated via manufacturing technology, which can create unique challenges for PCB designers.

Mentor Graphics board products have the capability of handling this sophisticated technology during both interactive and automatic design.

Maco has successfully used the Mentor board design tools for these types of designs.

"Our users in the communications industry have stringent requirements for designing their printed circuit boards and AutoActive technology is the only solution to meet these requirements", said Henry Potts, general manager and vice president, Systems Design Division, Mentor Graphics.

"This partnership strengthens our strategy to support and provide access to a diverse number of partner companies like Maco that offer integrated, leading-edge software solutions that complement the Mentor Graphics suite of tools in all aspects of the design process".

The design kit for ALIVH will be available immediately and provided free of charge for all customers using AutoActive technology, including Expedition PCB, Board Station RE and SFX RE.
