Mektron Systems has launched a range of compact, powered COTS rugged system enclosures designed for VME applications and offering outstanding quality and versatility In particular, these enclosures provide substantial cost savings over traditional full MIL-spec enclosures without having to compromise quality or performance

They are ideally suited for the deployment of commercial or industrial grade hardware in hostile environments.

Completely assembled, harnessed and configured to customer requirements these enclosures form an ideal rugged system packaging solution.

There is a comprehensive array of configurable options available from the standard range, adaptations or by full customisation.

They have a highly effective and efficient thermal management system making them well suited for power hungry boards such as Power PC.

Available in 3, 4 and 5U these enclosures can house a range of high performance VME backplanes from 1- to 9-slot including rugged VME backplane options and "VME64 extensions".

They can incorporate 160 or 220mm deep Eurocards with 60 or 100mm cardframe inset options.

Although these enclosures are designed for VME horizontal load applications they can also accommodate other Eurocard bus-based architecture systems including CompactPCI and Multibus II.

The MR Rugged Series of enclosures are constructed from 3mm sheet aluminium which is bolted using locking bushes to ensure fixing integrity and incorporating Mektron's revolutionary 'crush-fold' technique for extremely effective EMC protection.

This patented technique provides an inherently superior level of mechanical strength, rigidity and EMC performance as well as reducing the number of fasteners required.

All external panels are fully gasketed on their interfacing surfaces for optimum EMC and hermetic performance.

These rugged enclosures are designed for 100% front access and rapid MTTR (Mean Time To Repair) with plug-in power supply and fan tray assemblies.

A front panel covers the horizontal cardframe area that is inset from the front face and has screwed-down card guides and high tensile strength extrusions.

Air inlet and exhaust apertures are fitted with honeycomb EMI filters and provision is made for inlet air filtration.

A high-efficiency radial blower provides forced air evacuation cooling.

Various I/O arrangements can be incorporated including a modular panel for transitional boards along with standard I/O modules.

This range of rugged system enclosures is designed to meet the majority of military specifications including the EMC requirements of MIL-STD-461 and Def-Stan 59.41, and is built to safety standard EN 60950.

They can accommodate a wide variety of power supply solutions, typically around 250/400 watts, that can include DC, single and three phase AC inputs.

All power components are VDE, UL and CSA approved.
