Continuing a successful long-term relationship based on LSI Logic's powerful single-chip DoMiNo architecture, Tandberg Television is developing next generation products for use in mobile and portable ("wireless camera") applications and broadcast head-ends meeting the needs of satellite, cable, terrestrial, microwave, Internet protocol (IP) and telecomms network operators.
"LSI Logic's DoMiNo network media processing technology provides us with the ability to save bandwidth while producing broadcast-quality compressed images", said Tim Sheppard, director of product management, Tandberg Television.
"The DoMiNo architecture matched our requirements for a compact, low power solution for portability and is also flexible enough to serve a wide range of product applications, from high definition and standard definition broadcast transmission to bit rate changing used in broadband.
The ability to add value with Tandberg Television's own techniques was also highly important to us".
The LSI Logic DoMiNo architecture provides Tandberg Television a key competitive advantage with its highly integrated, high quality, multiple stream media processing.
The integrated motion estimation processor supports motion compensated temporal filtering (MCTF) and de-interlacing (MCDI) for superior picture quality.

This high level of integration drastically reduces system design complexity, component cost and time-to-market and greatly increases system reliability while cutting power consumption significantly.
Additionally, DoMiNo's flexible system bus and memory configuration allow for various system partitioning, providing Tandberg Television designers the flexibility they need to optimise and expand system performance and functionality.
"Tandberg Television is the leader in the digital video distribution market worldwide, and we are pleased that they have selected our highly integrated DoMiNo network media processor in their next generation scalable architecture", said Bob Saffari, senior director of marketing at advanced video products at LSI Logic.
"With 45 billion-operations-per-second, the programmable DoMiNo network media processor supports all MPEG audio and video compression formats including MPEG-4 and HDTV, enabling TANDGERG Television to lead the way for wireless digital video distribution by delivering products ranging from wireless cameras to HDTV broadcast equipment".
Digital video offers network operators the prospect of delivering high quality digital images at bandwidth saving, while generating additional profit from value-added services such as e-commerce, advertising and interactive services.
LSI Logic understands the digital world from experience and is a market leader in digital video.
Tandberg Television is the number one supplier of professional content acquisition and broadcast video encoders in the European market and LSI Logic is one of its largest silicon suppliers.
According to senior multimedia market analyst Michelle Abraham of In-Stat/MDR, "the professional broadcast industry is requiring an increasing number of channels within the same bandwidth.
While space and operational costs are becoming more relevant, video quality can not be compromised.
Tandberg Television is addressing this trend with its next generation products by leveraging LSI Logic's advanced DoMiNo network media processing technology".
