Host-bus adapters allow new ST2500 storage array to act as shared storage infrastructure

LSI has been chosen as the sole SAS (serial attached SCSI) HBA (host bus adapter) provider for the new ST2500 storage array from Sun Microsystems. The ST2500 array makes use of 3Gbyte/s SAS technology. When combined with LSI SAS HBAs and Sun servers, the ST2500 array enables Sun customers to create an external direct-attached storage (DAS) infrastructure that can realise the benefits of shared storage.

'Serial Attached SCSI is opening up new doors in the storage arena, and Sun is delivering a complete SAS solution comprised of servers, HBAs, and arrays that enables growing businesses to capitalise on this opportunity', says Nigel Desseau, Senior Vice President of Storage Marketing and Business Operations, Sun.

'With the integration of the LSI SAS HBAs, we have taken the steps to provide our customers with a shared external DAS solution that delivers the highest levels of performance and reliability for fast-growing storage environments'.

The Sun StorageTek SG-XPCIE8SAS-E-Z and SG-XPCI8SAS-E-Z SAS HBAs from LSI are designed for servers withg PCI-X or PCI-Express host bus interfaces, enabling Sun customers to achieve maximum system performance in their SAS storage environment.

The robust feature set of the HBAs, combined with comprehensive testing and support from Sun ensures that the HBAs provide the flexibility and interoperability needed for tape attach.

'The integration of LSI HBAs into the new SAS solution from Sun is a natural fit', says Dan Roehrich, Vice President, Storage Components Group marketing, Network and Storage Products Group, LSI.

'As the industry's leading provider of SAS building blocks, we understand what it takes to create a SAS environment that optimises features and functionality'.

'The combination of our HBAs with Sun's ST2500 and server platforms will provide growing businesses with a tremendous opportunity to leverage a robust external storage solution'.

The LSI equivalents of the SG-XPCIE8SAS-E-Z and SG-XPCI8SAS-E-Z HBAs are the LSISAS3801E and LSISAS3801X respectively.

LSI has been shipping the SAS3801E and SAS3801X models since the fourth quarter of 2006.
