iSystem has released its emulator and debugging support for the new MAC7100, the latest microcontroller for automotive applications from Freescale

The MAC7100 is based on the 32bit ARM DMI core and targeted at engineers designing body electronics, occupant safety systems and chassis applications needing a high-performance MCU solution using the ARM7TDMI-S architecture. In addition, the MAC7100 offers easy integration using Freescale Semiconductor's proven peripherals and Flash technology.

The initial range of this device offers up to 512Kbyte Flash, 32Kbyte SRAM, four CAN modules and 40MHz performance, with full automotive temperature and qualification.

The iSystem emulator and debug support for the MAC7100 offers two different development systems.

Both systems are based on the iSystem iC3000 ActiveEmulator and the winIdea development environment and debugger.

The first development system is the On-Chip Emulator for Debug, which has full JTAG debug support and high-speed Flash programming.

For this system, the iSystem iC3000 ActiveEmulator will be equipped with an ICard JTAG interface for ARM7.

The second system is the On-Chip Emulator Debug and Trace, a full-blown high-performance development system.

In this configuration, the iC3000 ActiveEmulator will be connected to the iSystem ITrace Pro for the MAC7100.

This system supports debugging through the JTAG interface and Nexus Trace through one single interface connection to the target system.

The development system also supports real-time access, instruction trace, OTM trace and a profiler.

All iSystem emulators are driven by the easy to use winIdea, an integrated development environment.

WinIdea runs on Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP operating systems.

As well as a powerful debugger, winIdea includes a project manager and build manager where all well-known compilers can be integrated, thus allowing the user to write, download, debug and edit their code from single interface.

Both iSystem and Freescale will be demonstrating the MAC7100 technology at "Fixing wheels to micros", an embedded-automotive seminar to be held in Birmingham, UK on 29th June.

This free technical seminar is available to embedded engineers working in the automotive sector.
