With respective program memory capacities of 1K x 14, 2K x 14 and 4K x 15bit, the HT48R10A-1, HT48R30A-1 and HT48R50A-1 are Holtek's new generation of 8bit general-purpose I/O microcontrollers. In addition to being pin-compatible with the devices they replace (namely the HT48R11/HT48R12, HT48R31/HT48R32 and HT48R50/HT48R51), these three new devices offer the advantage of higher noise immunity, higher operating frequency, higher numbers of I/O ports, greater choice of pull high resistors, increased stack levels, low voltage reset, programmable timer prescaler and programmable frequency divider functions. Also included in the new devices are buzzer driver/carrier multi-operational pins, new functions which all add up to provide the user with a far greater versatility than was available with the previous devices.

With its power saving timer, the HT48R10A-1 also now possesses an RTC oscillator input, which allows the timer to keep running when the microcontroller is in low-power halt mode.

This new function is an improvement over the older device which, when in low-power operating mode, was unable to implement a timer function.

In considering the overall capabilities of these three new devices, as well as taking into account the ease with which existing users can upgrade their products, both the functions and performance of the new devices have increased substantially, and in the process have provided users with a more flexible and easier method of new product design.

As for packaging, the HT48R10A-1 is available in 24-pin skinny DIP and SOP outlines, the HT48R30A-1 in 24/28-pin skinny DIPs and SOPs, and the HT48R50A-1 in 28-pin skinny DIPs and 48-pin SSOPs.

To complement these devices, Holtek provides a range of hardware and software tools in the form of its HT-IDE2000 development system.

Included in this system are features such as real time emulation, memory/register modification, hardware execution breakpoints, trace analysers etc, features which provide designers with all the tools they need for rapid and efficient product application development and debug.
