Supply takes IPMI card onboard for Compact PCI
The latest high-efficiency 400W Compact PCI power supply from Gresham Power features an industry first - an optional Intelligent Platform Management Interface card.
The latest high-efficiency 400W Compact PCI power supply from Gresham Power features an industry first - an optional IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) card.
Compact PCI system managers have long been able to monitor the status of the analogue and digital signal processing cards, disk drives etc installed in a system.
The notable exception has been the power supply, arguably the most essential component in terms of reliable system operation.
With the new features available in this power supply platform managers may now monitor in real time both analogue and digital functions of the power supply.
Information is continuously available on the following parameters: all four output voltages; output current of the two main outputs; internal reference voltage; self test; power supply ambient temperature and heatsink temperature; power fail; and the unit may be remotely turned on and off.
In addition to these functional signals, the "electronic serial number" may be read, which not only uniquely identifies the unit but also indicates manufacture revision level and safety agency approval status.
The CPCI-AC-4U-400 power supply fully conforms to the accepted Compact PCI specifications and offers "hot-swap" connection, output current sharing for N+1 redundant operation and requires no minimum load to function correctly.
Backplane connection is via the standard Positronic 47-pin PICMG 2.11 connector.
The power supply is fully safety agency approved to UL, CSA and TUV, is CE marked and conducted EMC meets EN5022 class A and FCC-68, Part-15.
With efficiency better than 81% at 230V AC input and space saving dimensions of just 6U high by 8HP wide and 169.60mm depth, minimal heat is passed on into the host system and maximum space is made available for functional system components.
Standard output voltage configuration is 5V DC at 50A, 3.3V DC at 80A, +12V DC at 7A and -12V DC at 1A.
Input voltage is "universal" from 85 to 264V AC over the frequency range 47-63Hz, and a 48V DC input version is also available for telecomms applications.
Full output power is available over a temperature range of -10 to +55C with 15ft3/min of cooling.
Additional standard features include, unlimited duration overload and short-circuit protection, overvoltage and overtemperature protection, load sensing on 5 and 3.3V DC outputs, "enable", "inhibit" and "power good" signals, front panel LEDs to indicate output and input power status and I2C databus for remote monitoring and control.
Jake Moir, MD of Gresham comments: "This is an exciting development in this rapidly growing market sector and for the first time allows a complete Compact CPI system to be remotely monitored".
