Interface technology lands Emmy Award
Gennum Corp has received a Technical Emmy Award for more than a decade of technological innovation that enables television studios to produce high definition broadcasting
This will be the European debut of the GS9060 deserialiser, GS9062 serialiser, GS9064 adaptive cable equaliser and GS9068 cable driver components that allow SD-SDI interfaces to be built quickly and easily using an existing HD-LINX II HD/SD design, simply by populating the board with these new devices.
Each component is pin-compatible with Gennum's corresponding HD-LINX II multi-rate components.
This solution is the first of its kind for the industry and allows for maximum reuse potential.
It is also the industry's first complete SD-SDI transmit and receive solution that does not require the use of a 5V power supply.
The new GS7060 DVB-ASI deserialiser and GS7062 DVB-ASI serialiser will line up alongside the new SD portfolio on the Gennum booth at IBC 2002.
These send-and-receive devices share a common footprint allowing a generic board design to be configured as an input or as an output by populating with either a GS7060 deserialiser or GS7062 serialiser.

Gennum has achieved a very high level of integration with these two new components, which contain a built-in cable driver at the serial output as well as 8b/10b encoding/decoding and K28.5 sync character insertion/detection on-chip.
The GS7060 deserialiser also features an integrated reclocker.
Gennum will also be showcasing their latest additions to the Visual Excellence family of image processing products.
The three chips to be demonstrated are targeted at broadcast and high-end display applications.
The growth in flat panel displays and progressive scan CRTs is largely due to the image quality provided by progressive scan formats.
Since most video content is interlaced video, high quality video de-interlacing is required.
Traditionally, converting from interlaced to progressive scan formats has introduced image artifacts and degraded image quality.
The GF9331 motion coprocessor and the GF9330 high performance de-interlacer address the need for higher image quality in progressive scan displays by implementing broadcast-quality motion adaptive temporal de-interlacing algorithms with directional edge detection/interpolation techniques.
These solutions are also unique in their ability to de-interlace 10bit HDTV 1080i video with motion adaptive techniques, producing ultra high quality 1080p60 signals.
Integrated detail enhancement algorithms in the GF9330 and GF9331 ensure that sharp and vivid output images are always achieved.
The GF9330 and GF9331 are the only devices in the market that also support 24PsF formats.
The GF9320 scaling processor is able to perform arbitrary scaling to match the input video to the desired output display format.
In addition, the GF9320 performs broadcast quality scaling on 10bit video using a 24-tap ploy-phase FIR filter.
Gennum also offers a full range of analogue chips as well as its established digital solutions, and technical staff will be present on IBC Booth 10.400, to answer visitors' questions and explain the new and existing product portfolios.
IBC 2002 runs from 13th to 17th September 2002 at Amsterdam RAI, Netherlands.
