RFID chip is passport to success
New from GD Technik is Atmel's latest high-performance transponder for applications from access control to train fare collection
Radio frequency identification devices (RFID) are finding a home in more and more diverse applications, covering everything from security access cards to tagging luggage. GD Technik, in response to this rapidly expanding market, has introduced Atmel's new AT88RF020 single-chip RFID, which features onboard security, enduring memory and a one-way transaction counter that allows tracking of individual device usage.

The AT88RF020 13.56MHz RFID includes an on-chip EEPROM, and can be used in applications where one or more RFIDs will be simultaneously situated within an intelligent reader/writer RF field.
Communication between the RF reader/writer and the device takes place through an anti-collision command set.
The device's 2048bit of low-power EEPROM is organised as 32 x 64bit pages, with write operations designed to finish in less than 2ms.
This highly reliable memory is capable of 100,000 faultless write cycles and data retention of at least 10 years.
The device complies with Type B operation of ISO/IEC14443 and has full ISO14443-3 anti-collision compliance.
It is supplied in a 16-pin JEDEC SOIC package.
A one-way transaction counter allows tracking of individual device usage, with the counter factory set at zero and cannot be reset.
Each device has a unique serial number.
The AT88RF020 includes an on-chip tuning capacitor enabling operation as a complete tag simply by the addition of an external coil antenna.
