GDA Technologies has developed reference design kits for the Intel IXP2400 and IXP2800 network processors

The reference designs from GDA are based on industry standard form factors that will enable early designing of systems and equipment based on Intel network processors. GDA's IXP2400 reference design kit is a PCI adapter card compliant with the PCI local bus specification, version 2.2 interface for 64bit/66MHz I/O card, whereas the reference design kit based on the IXP2800 is designed to serve as a PrPMC (Processor PCI mezzanine Card) platform and is compliant with VMEbus International Trade Association (VITA) 32 Standard.

The GDA Technologies IXP2400 reference design kit features the fully programmable, high-performance Intel IXP2400 network processor.

It has an OC48 interface, two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and a full complement of other features, including a SODIMM slot for DDR memory, Flash memory, QDR-II SRAM and a serial port for easy debugging.

The GDA IXP2400 RDK comes with the Embedded Linux board support package.

This design kit is an ideal platform for embedded developers, original equipment manufacturers and system integrators who want a flexible development environment around the Intel IXP2400 network processor.

The PCI interface enables the board to be used as a ready-made plug-in CPU module.

The other features allow the board to be used as a control/management processor subsystem in a variety of system designs.

The RDK can also serve as a bridge between OC and Ethernet interfaces.

The GDA Technologies' IXP2800 reference design kit offers a rich feature set that includes QDR memory, RDRAM modules and Flash memory, thereby providing developers great flexibility to explore various development applications around the Intel IXP2800 network processor.

The GDA IXP2800 RDK can be used to run various applications that have an aggregate bandwidth of 10Gbit/s, with the help of an external daughtercard through the SPI.4-2 interface.

These applications range from Sonet/SDH to POS and from ATM to Gigabit Ethernet.

The PMC form factor makes this platform an ideal choice for System Integrators and OEMs to use as a plug-in network processor module on system controller cards, motherboards, I/O peripheral boards, server blades and security servers.

The board is also available with the Intel IXP2850 network processor.

The GDA IXP2800 RDK comes with the Embedded Linux board support package.

"The Intel IXP2400 and the Intel IXP2800 are the leading network processors in the industry today with their powerful performance and flexibility of programming.

GDA has and will continue to invest a lot of its design and embedded software knowledge and expertise around Intel's family of network processors", said Gopa Periyadan, Vice President of System and Software Design Services at GDA Technologies.

"Our goal it to help Intel's customers reduce cost, risk and time to market while they design products and systems around these processors".

At present the Embedded Linux operating system is supported on both reference platforms.

GDA will also offer its embedded software services for porting other popular embedded operating systems.

In addition, GDA has also created a valuable debug and diagnostics software tool around these processors and is available with both platforms.

This tool provides a basic boot monitor along with extensive diagnostic routines and loop-back tests.

This tool will allow customers to shorten debug and test cycle time, which is a significant portion of the product development cycle.

"The GDA reference design kits and electronic design services for the Intel IXP2400 and Intel IXP2800 network processors will provide equipment developers important options to help accelerate or sub-contract some of their product development", said Doug Davis, General Manager of the Intel Network Processor Division.

Intel network processor customers can also use the engineering design services offered by GDA in systems, boards, PCB layouts and SoC development, ASICs FPGAs and IPs to customise this GDA reference design for their specific applications.

The GDA design package connects Intel customers to the best design resources for their specific engineering, software development and validation requirements.

GDA's IXP2400 and IXP2800 reference design kits are available now.
