New division combines fibres and tools
Furukawa is to streamline its customer service across Europe with the creation of a new Fitel Interconnectivity Division combining its current Fusion Splicer and MT Connector groups
Its T-shaped bodyenables splices to be made using a minimum excess fibre lengthwhen the head of the splicer is inserted into the enclosure, andat the same time allows the user to hold the fusion splicer inone hand when conducting operations in locations with limitedworking space.
It handles only single fibres.
As in the case ofprevious models, the fibre is set in the holder and the unitexecutes all operations automatically, so that anyone can operatethe unit with ease.
An enlarged image of the fibre is displayedusing a CCD camera and a 2.5in colour LCD monitor to provide theoperator with a high quality representation of the fibre.
Itoffers fast, fully automatic splicing in only 13s - all the userneeds to do is set the fibre in the holder and press a button. The operator can easily switch between single mode fibre andmulti mode fibre by selecting a preset fusion programme.
The unitoffers two power supplies - a removable, rechargeable battery andan optional DC adapter to allow AC power.
