Reference design for
networking and comms
The Everest reference design processor PCI mezzanine card (PrPMC) is based on the Broadcom BCM1250 (SiByte) embedded processor
With dual 64bit MIPS cores and gigabit Ethernet controllers on the BCM1250, this multiprocessing PrPMC offers one of the most flexible, high-density platforms for general-purpose functionality, enabling quick, easy-to-program software development. Intended primarily for communications and networking applications, the Everest module provides an embedded building-block for load-balancing web servers, "high-touch" packet switching, storage area networks (SANs) and other uses requiring flexible, high-bandwidth processing.

Italtel to apply central office platform
Italtel will base its next-generation iMSS media servers, media gateway servers and signalling servers on Force's new Centellis CO 31KX AdvancedTCA modular communications platform
Built on a standard small-footprint PrPMC form-factor, the Everest module can be implemented on host platforms or carrier cards with available PMC slots for system offloading or other high-datarate control procedures.
By adding the Everest reference design to its existing 'off-the-shelf' technology building blocks, Force can provide a BCM1250 design in a standard form factor or adapt it to OEM specifications.
As the enabling technology at the heart of the Everest PrPMC, the Broadcom BCM1250 employs a 256bit ZBbus system bus, which delivers up to 128Gbit/s bandwidth.

Expansion for AdvancedTCA line
One year after being the first company to bring AdvancedTCA SBCs and systems to commercial realisation, Force Computers has introduced two new cost-effective ATCA devices
Together with the dual MIPS cores and on-chip gigabit Ethernet controllers, it maintains complete data and I/O coherence.
In addition, because the BCM1250 is compliant with the MIPS64 instruction set architecture (ISA), OEMs can take advantage of a large, existing base of third-party development tools and software written for the MIPS platform, which minimises programming efforts.
Other features on the module are: 256Mbyte ECC-protected DDR266 memory - expandable to 1Gbyte; Hypertransport and 32bit PCI interfaces; up to 64Mbyte onboard user Flash; and board support packages (BSPs) for VxWorks and Linux operating systems.
"Force's Everest module leverages our BCM1250 architecture to offer OEMs a flexible solution for networking and communications applications", said Krishna Anne, strategic marketing manager of Broadcom's Broadband Processor Business Unit.
"Customers focused on web server, packet switching and storage area network markets can maximise use of the PrPMC's robust feature set to reduce time-to-market".
