Nine new random-phase triac driver optocouplers in 4-pin, mini-flat packages provide designers flexibility and space-saving benefits in industrial and consumer applications

Fairchild Semiconductor has expanded its family of random-phase triac driver optocouplers with nine new products in 4-pin, mini-flat packages (MFP) that provide designers flexibility and space-saving benefits in industrial and consumer applications. The triac drivers offer designers a choice of three peak blocking voltages (250, 400 or 600V) and three trigger current options (5, 10 or 15mA) that can be tailored to specific application needs.

These very compact, MFP-packaged products also feature a high, steady-state isolation voltage of 3750V RMS, full pitch (2.54mm) lead spacing, as well as a low (2.4mm) maximum standoff height - ideal characteristics for very small footprint and low-profile designs.

Fairchild's new random-phase triac driver optocouplers consist of an infra-red LED that is optically coupled to a silicon bilateral switch.

They are designed to drive power triacs, such as Fairchild's family of 800V triacs, which are used in a wide variety of applications including AC motor drives and starters, static AC power switches, temperature and solenoid/valve controls and solid state relays.

Random-phase triac driver optocouplers allow the power triac to be triggered at any point on the AC voltage waveform making them ideal for phase control applications.

All the new Fairchild random phase triac drivers are UL approved (BSI, CSA and VDE pending).

"This new family of 4-pin MFP-packaged, random-phase triac driver optocouplers adds to Fairchild's existing line of 23 triac drivers in 6-pin DIP packaging", said Krish Ramdass, Strategic Marketing Manager for Fairchild's optocoupler Group.

"These new devices are particularly well suited to applications where small footprint and low standoff height are of concern".

In addition, these products are applicable for IR reflow soldering profiles of 230C maximum for 30s.

These devices are available in tape and reel quantities of 500 and 2500 units.

Samples are available now.
