I2C is a two wire, bidirectional serial bus which provides a simple, efficient way for data exchange between devices.

It's designed for applications which need frequent communications over a short distance between a numbers of devices.

Integrating an I2C interface into a touch panel controller removes the need for general-purpose I/O lines, reducing costs and speeding up the interface.

The new I2C touch panel controller chip is especially suitable for small size touch panel and portable devices like cellphones, PDAs, web pads, e-books, tablet PCs and the Mira smart-monitor.

The I2C interface provides another option for communicating with embedded systems, and manufacturers of portable devices can use this solution to integrate the touch panel functions into their platform immediately.

The eGalax I2C solution will work with four- mfive- and eight-wire touch panels, with resolutions up to 2048 x 2048 and a report rate up to 160point/s.

Besides the I2C controller chip for small size touch panels, eGalax provides a full range of analogue resistive and capacitive controllers for both middle and large size touch panels.

The controller communicates with the PC system directly through RS232, PS2 or USB port.

The design is optimised for an accurate, sensitive and quick touch performance as well as an ease of use interface.

The driver emulates the mouse functions, and supports a variety of operating systems, including Windows 98, NT4, 2000, Me, XP and CE.net, as well as DOS, iMac and RedHat Linux.
