Elan's new VMB5000 multifunction bridge chip is proving of significant interest to the RFID market.

Elan's new VMB5000 multifunction bridge chip is proving of significant interest to the RFID market because it offers simple implementation of SD type Flash memory as part of the standard PCMCIA interface function.

No significant extra components are involved in this application, making it a very economical solution as the chip itself is low in cost.

The unique design of the VMB5000 bridge device enables virtually unlimited Flash memory to be installed on the PCMCIA/CF RFID card and to be accessed concurrently with the normal serial or USB data interface.

The memory will appear in the host device list as a standard drive letter and may be used for any kind of data storage.

A good example would be logging RFID access information where the advantage is to have this data independent of the host computer.

In critical applications it may also be important to have a backup store of information physically on the RFID reader as well as transfer to the host PC.

The VMB5000 is a single chip PCMCIA/CF interface solution which combines very small size, low power, high speed and low cost.

Driver software is provided for Windows 2000/XP.
