Microcontroller database answers users' demands
The Microsearch web-based 8051 microcontroller database now allows users to specify in detail those features they require in a micro for their application
Computer Solutions has added a powerful self-selection search capability to its Microsearch web-based 8051 microcontroller database, allowing users to specify in detail those features they require in a micro for their application. Microsearch, which now includes details of more than 1000 chips from over 55 manufacturers, allows customised searching for features such as number of I/O pins, number of timers, power consumption, speed and special interfaces supported.

As a result, users can match the right micro to their exact needs.
The self-search Microsearch reporting facility uses a feature selection form that enables the user to specify the parameters to be displayed in the final report and any requirements on which microcontrollers are to be included.
For example, the user may only be interested in microcontrollers with three external interrupts, more than I/O of 10bit resolution and more than 8Mbyte of Flash program space.
He or she might also wish to know their idling power and what packages are available.
Once these requirements are entered, the search facility automatically identifies devices that meet the criteria and prints a detailed report.
'The new self selection Microsearch facility solves a growing problem for engineers as ever-increasing numbers of 8051 chips become available from multiple manufacturers', says Chris Stephens, Managing Director of Comsol: 'There is a great deal of data being published but very little that shows comparisons between manufacturers'.
'As the volume of data required to do a comprehensive survey increases, a resource such as micro-search, which helps designers to focus on just those devices that meet their criteria, is invaluable'.
When they have chosen their processor, designers can link to Comsol's 'Supported chips directory', which provides details of the many development tools available from the company's web shop to support that device.
Micro-Search is part of Comsol's 'Embedded information zone', a growing reference directory for designers that can be accessed on its website.
