Quantel cleans stencils without solvents
A new solvent-free cleaning system gives Quantel the highest standards of cleaning for screen printer foils
Contax has installed a Kolb PS03 cleaning system at Quantel to ensure the highest standards of cleaning for screen printer foils. Quantel designs and builds production and post-production systems for leading content creators worldwide. Its systems are used in films, commercials and news broadcasts by a host of media and entertainment corporations, including Disney, Ascent and Fox.

Previously Quantel was using another screen cleaner that had reached the end of its working life and was no longer providing the required results.
Explained Nigel Burton, Senior Production Engineer at Quantel: 'We needed to replace our existing cleaner as it was becoming obsolete, and more importantly, it used some highly flammable chemicals that we wanted to remove from our processes'.
Quantel undertook a review of the market and shortlisted three systems to trial.

The new system should clean and dry their screen printer foils and misprinted PCBs, use a water-based detergent and be reasonably compact.
The Kolb PS03 is designed specifically for fast, effective, stencil cleaning.
Measuring only 800 x 1200 x 1580mm, it uses eco-friendly odourless solvent-free water-based detergents.
The system provides a fully automatic three-stage cleaning cycle, comprising: cleaning with permanently working five-step filtration, clean medium rinsing and drying using a high capacity ventilated air (VA) supercharger.
Continued Burton: 'After looking at all the systems available we chose the Kolb as it met all our criteria'.
'The fact that Kolb only manufactures cleaning systems and are therefore specialists in their field, was also an important factor in our decision'.
Summarising, Burton said: 'Our new Kolb is simple to operate, easy to maintain - and most importantly - does the job it was purchased to do'.
'We can now guarantee clean foils, which in turn increase our solder paste print quality'.
'We are happy with the service from Contax, and it has been a very successful decision all round', he concluded.
