Swiss MEMS manufacturer Colibrys has set up a North Americansubsidiary and has appointed James A Aberson, as BusinessDevelopment Manager for North America. The creation of this UScompany is a major move by the Swiss parent aimed at establishinga dominant presence in North America as a supplier of siliconMEMS products and services.

Since it was founded in January 2001,Colibrys has become Europe's largest independentmanufacturer of MEMS components with revenues in inertialnavigation, telecom, life science and industrial markets.

JimAberson of Colibrys said, 'I am very pleased to join a MEMScompany with a solid reputation for design and manufacture ofMEMS products.

Colibrys has consistently continued to seeyear-on-year growth in its MEMS business over the past 5 years, this whilst many of our competitors have collapsed or seensignificant reduction in revenue during this past year.

Asignificant proportion of our new customers is based in NorthAmerica and we intend to exploit the broader need in the NorthAmerican marketplace for a professional supplier of silicon MEMS.This step is but the first of many in the coming year towardsestablishing a strong design, applications and sales network forour existing and future customers'.
