Cimetrix has granted ISMI a 12-month exclusive licence to distribute Cimetrix Interface A client software, which ISMI will call 'EDA Client Connection Emulator'

Cimetrix has attained a significant milestone in the technology progression and industry maturation of Interface A within the greater semiconductor manufacturing community. Cimetrix has granted ISMI (International Sematech Manufacturing Initiative) a 12-month exclusive licence to distribute Cimetrix Interface A client software, which ISMI will call 'EDA Client Connection Emulator'.

Interface A is part of SEMI's equipment data acquisition (EDA) standards targeting e-manufacturing applications such as advanced process control and e-diagnostics.

'The significance of this licence with ISMI is that it enables rapid dissemination of proven Interface A intellectual property and greatly facilitates the implementation of new process control improvements that are paramount for the industry going forward', said Dave Faulkner, Executive Vice President at Cimetrix.

The EDA Client Connection Emulator will be made available to ISMI member companies, equipment OEMs and even Cimetrix competitors who provide other Interface A solutions.

Following the initial 12 months, the Interface A software source code will be 'open sourced' to the semiconductor community.

'ISMI is providing this forward-looking solution to the industry at a critical point with respect to commercial adoption and market acceptance of the new Interface A standards', said Harvey Wohlwend, Project Manager at ISMI.

'By supplying this reference client implementation, which is based on ISMI member company consensus requirements, we expect equipment OEMs to progress quickly in developing their Interface A solutions'.

'This licence agreement with ISMI demonstrates Cimetrix's commitment to helping the industry-wide adoption of Interface A', commented Faulkner.

'By allowing access to our technology, eventually including the source code itself in an open source licence programme, we hope to unify the commercial adoption of Interface A and enable the entire community to use and contribute to this technology'.

In short, Cimetrix will leverage its fourth generation Interface A technology to provide source code for EDA client tools.

The EDA client tools use two separate user interfaces.

The first user interface is for security administration, data collection plan creation and management and equipment metadata viewing.

The second user interface is for consuming the data and monitoring the performance of the collection rate.

An equipment supplier will be able to connect to this EDA client and execute functions defined in the SEMI standards, with the results captured in a log file.

It will also provide the equipment supplier a basic set of performance metrics.

'After working very closely with our early beta customers and addressing the ongoing development requirements from ISMI, Cimetrix has developed new features for our CIMPortal Interface A solution that go beyond the scope of the SEMI Interface A standard, yet stay within the confines of the standard', said Michael Feaster, Executive Vice President of Research and Development for Cimetrix.

'What ISMI is licensing and distributing as the EDA Client Connection Emulator is fourth generation software technology that is part of our CIMPortal development programme'.

'This technology was developed based on Microsoft's.Net platforms, but will be modified to run with Linux using a Linux based SOAP package'.

Speaking about the broad capabilities that the licence enables, ISMI's Wohlwend said: 'By requiring the EDA Client Connection Emulator to run on both Windows and Linux and multiple SOAP packages, this solution covers the broad spectrum of needs required by ISMI members'.

'It provides insight into the complex interoperability challenges, and also fulfills the ISMI mission to provide a reference client application for equipment suppliers to use in the development of Interface A compatibility'.
