C and D Technologies (NCL) has expanded its family of miniature, single-output surface-mount DC/DC convertors with a new range of low-voltage 1W devices

C and D Technologies (NCL) has expanded its family of miniature, single-output surface-mount DC/DC convertors with the launch of low-voltage, 1W devices that offer long life, full-specification performance across the industrial temperature range without external cooling. Suited to providing localised, spot power in low-voltage, space-limited industrial power schemes, the new 3V input NTE converters feature a single, isolated output of 3.3 or 5V and have a board-mounting footprint of just 1.64cm2.

The devices have MTTF ratings of up to 2.9 million hours and can help designers to significantly simplify their distributed power schemes by delivering full load performance from -40 to +85C without a heatsink.

The C and D Technologies (NCL) low-voltage NTE DC/DC convertors have an input-output isolation of 1kV DC and are based on an SMD construction that incorporates multilayer capacitors for optimum reliability and toroidal magnetics for minimum noise emissions.

Convertors in the NTE series are packaged in UL94V0 material and employ lead-frame technology and transfer moulding techniques to provide all of the design and manufacturing benefits associated with IC-style packaging.

In particular, full compliance with the CECC00802 standard for reflow soldering at 280C and pin coplanarity in line with the IEC 191-6:1990 IC standard allows the convertors to be treated as conventional ICs during assembly, eliminating the need for separate, manual and low-temperature mounting processes.

The new low-voltage convertors can be supplied in tape-and-reel packaging with unit pricing for OEM quantities of under $5.31.

In addition to the standard devices C and D Technologies (NCL) can design and manufacture custom parts based on its NTE lead frame and transfer moulding technologies.
