Bookham is to launch a new family of 10Gbit/s XFP SR transceiver modules at this week's OFC/NFOEC
The transceiver doubles the output power of the standard Bookham DWDM SFP, extending the unamplified reach by 33%. The product, which is being demonstrated at the Bookham stand (number 2125), has an output power range of +4 to +7dBm, 100GHz channel spacing and full C and L band coverage. The transceiver will provide equipment vendors with the ability to support Sonet/SDH, Ethernet and Fibre Channel with one product, and is capable of transmitting at rates from 155Mbit/s to 4.25Gbit/s.
'By increasing the optical power output of the Bookham DWDM SFP, we are extending the capability of this one product to support a wide range of application needs; especially those relating to rapidly emerging Ethernet over DWDM transport systems', said Richard Baldey, Product Line Manager at Bookham.
'We believe that we are one of only a few suppliers able to achieve such a range of datarates and reaches, giving customers scalability and flexibility while simplifying logistics and inventory costs'.
'This capability can now be achieved across much longer links, offering a further opportunity for customers to reduce costs'.

Laser module pumps up the power
The increased output power of the new pump module will enable significant cost reductions in terrestrial legacy systems by reducing the number of pumps required
The Bookham DWDM SFP is designed to perform in amplified low OSNR links.
It enables an uncompensated link length of up to 180km for STM-16/OC-48/OTN-1 and provides 80km reach at 4G Fibre Channel rates.
The product adheres to the worldwide DWDM SFP MSA and forms part of the company's wider pluggable portfolio, which is being enhanced at OFC/NFOEC 2007 with the addition of an XFP capable of transmitting data at 11.1Gbit/s.
Bookham is showcasing a range of products at OFC/NFOEC 2007, including its tunable, pluggable and pump portfolios.
The company participated in the OSA Executive Forum on Monday 26th March, and will present a paper entitled 'Zero chirp 10Gbit/s MQW InP Mach Zehnder transmitter with full-band tenability' on Wednesday 28th March.
