Asset InterTech and Firecron will demonstrate system-level JTAG test and programming in a proof-of-concept system at the upcoming European Board Test Workshop

Asset InterTech and Firecron will demonstrate system-level JTAG (SJTAG) test and programming in a proof-of-concept system at the upcoming European Board Test Workshop, to be held in Chilworth, Southampton, UK on 24th and 25th May 2006. SJTAG is an industry initiative begun a year ago with a goal of standardising processes and methodologies for the deployment of system-level boundary scan (JTAG) applications.

The SJTAG group is chaired by Dr Ben Bennetts and comprises representatives from Motorola, Lucent, Ericsson and other leading technology firms.

The SJTAG proof-of-concept system was created by Asset and Firecron.

It incorporates many of the design principles defined by the working group and is seen by the group as the first step toward an open-standard, nonproprietary implementation of system-level JTAG test and programming.

'We have been working with Firecron and the SJTAG group for quite some time on open standards', said Reg Waller, European Director for Asset InterTech.

'System-level JTAG is becoming much more important to OEMs seeking higher degrees of fault tolerance and reliability within their systems, and vendor-independent implementations are key to opening that market'.

Asset's easy yet powerful ScanWorks boundary-scan test and ISP environment is currently used by leading electronics companies such as Cisco, Lucent Technologies, Agilent, BAE, Alcatel, Hewlett-Packard, Ericsson, Intel, Raytheon, SBS, Solectron, Rockwell Collins, EMC and others.

The SJTAG demonstrator consists of an Asset ScanWorks boundary-scan system interacting with a Firecron embedded controller.

Test vectors generated by ScanWorks are dynamically downloaded into the system with the Firecron embedded boundary-scan controller over a LAN/WAN Ethernet connection.

The vectors are executed on the system and diagnostic data is sent back to the remote ScanWorks station for fault isolation and display.

'Adopting an SJTAG design is proven to save OEMs time and money, and reduces the no fault found (NFF) issue in the field', said Eugene Mullen, Vice President at Firecron.

'Firecron is committed to this technology'.
