Flash MCU adds
reprogrammability to old designs
Microchip's new field-programmable PICmicro Flash microcontroller combines analogue functionality with serial communication and digital I/O capabilities
The highly flexible cost effective PIC16F72 features 3.6Kbyte of Flash program memory, 128byte RAM, up to 5MIPS performance at 20MHz, and an operating voltage range of 2.0-5.5V. A five-channel, 8bit ADC, a Capture/Compare/PWM module, two 8bit timers and one 16bit timer are also included. Other features include Brownout detection/reset, a watchdog timer and In-Circuit Serial Programming.

The PIC16F72 is code and pin compatible with the company's PIC16CR72 ROM- and PIC16C72A OTP-based microcontrollers and provides a proven migration path for adding reprogrammable Flash memory to existing applications.
The device is ideal for small memory applications such as automotive body controls, electric tools, battery chargers, and consumer appliances.
The PIC16F72 is supported by a complete range of Microchip development tools including the MPLAB in-circuit emulator 2000, the MPLAB integrated development environment, the Pro Mate II device programmer and the Picstart development programmer.
The device is available in 28-lead PDIP, SOIC, SSOP packages as well as the new 28-lead quad flat no leads (QFN) chip scale package (CSP).
