Microcontrollers show collective intelligence

Microchip reckons its latest 8-pin PICmicro Flash microcontrollers provide a complete solution for distributed intelligence applications

Traditional embedded control designs rely on a single processor that can impose higher costs and design limitations. Modern distributed intelligence systems use multiple processors to achieve greater design flexibility, reduced wiring, feature-rich end products, Internet connectivity and a lower total system cost.

With the industry's highest performance at one of its lowest prices, the new PIC12F629 and PIC12F675 microcontrollers offer a complete solution for distributed intelligence systems.

The devices feature a 14bit instruction set with 1.8Kbyte of Flash program memory, 64byte RAM and 128byte EEPROM for extra storage.

This is twice the amount of Flash, RAM and data EEPROM memory that some competitors offer.

Both devices feature an analogue comparator, an internal 4MHz oscillator and in-circuit debug capability.

The PIC12F675 also offers four channels of 10bit ADC.

Additional features include EEPROM write capability over the entire voltage range of 2.0 to 5.5V.

The devices are ideal for embedded control applications in the consumer, industrial, telecommunication and automotive markets.

They are pin and code compatible with all of Microchip's existing 8-pin PICmicro microcontrollers and are supported by a wide range of modular development tools.

The devices are available in 8-pin PDIP and SOIC packages.
