Multitechnology design system embraces VHDL-AMS
Simplorer 6.0 simulation software is designed for digital prototyping of multitechnology systems used in the automotive, aerospace and power-electronics industries
"Simplorer's capabilities, features, and quality of support meet all our goals and fit well with our simulation vision and strategy", said Ron M Wadood, Lead Engineer, Core Methods and Tools, at DaimlerChrysler. "The new version will help us to streamline and accelerate the electrical design process for conventional and electric/hybrid-electric vehicles".

Simplorer 6.0, an easy-to-use software environment built on a powerful cosimulation technology, enables engineers to accurately model systems comprised of analogue, digital, mixed-signal electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, controls, and other technologies without having to choose between proprietary modelling languages.
Simplorer allows all of these technologies to operate simultaneously, delivering unprecedented power and flexibility for simulating complex multitechnology systems.
"Simplorer 6.0 enables close collaboration between suppliers and OEMs, essential for concurrent design of complex systems, while protecting proprietary technologies", said Uwe Knorr, Product Marketing Director for Simplorer.

"Ansoft's automotive solutions strategy has been validated by the recent adoption of our products at General Motors, Chrysler, BMW, and Ford".
New features include compatibility with VHDL-AMS, the IEEE standard modelling language for analogue mixed-signal design.
VHDL-AMS is designed to be an easily exchangeable, open-source modelling language that facilitates the collaboration of multiple organisations.
Simplorer allows the VHDL-AMS to be mixed freely with its other modelling languages (circuits, state machines, and block diagrams), creating a very flexible design environment.
Simplorer 6.0 is compatible with the standard Spice 3F5 format, allowing existing Spice models of components to be used within Simplorer, and thus eliminating the requirement for a tedious conversion process for existing models.
Simplorer now supports DC and AC analyses, extending the software's capabilities beyond its traditional transient capability.
Power convertors with intricate, integrated control schemes can be easily modelled using Simplorer.
A new hydraulics library provides a set of sophisticated models for powertrain and other hydraulic applications.
The automotive library offers a comprehensive set of models for extensive electrical-system analysis, including battery and fuel-cell models.
With Simplorer 6.0, users can generate highly accurate system-level models based on the results of parametric finite-element analysis performed with Ansoft's Maxwell.
In addition, engineers can reuse existing designs by cosimulating with specialised tools, such as Matlab/Simulink, Advisor and user-created C programs.
