Analog Devices has shipped its two hundred millionth MEMS-based inertial sensor

The company achieved this milestone through wide market acceptance of its iMEMS Motion Signal Processing technology and by continuing to invest in MEMS R and D. ADI's MEMS product portfolio now includes the industry's widest selection of low-g and high-g accelerometers and gyroscopes. The company's iMEMS technology has not only been embraced by the automotive industry for applications such as multiple airbag, rollover, navigation, car alarm and vehicle dynamic control systems, but is also being rapidly adopted by the consumer products industry.

'ADI pioneered and evangelised the field of micro-electromechanical systems'.

'Following the shipment of our first iMEMS accelerometer in 1993, it took nearly ten years to grow the market to 100 million units', said Bill Giudice, Vice President and General Manager of the Micromachined Products Division, Analog Devices.

'Today, the investment has paid off and Analog Devices' iMEMS Motion Signal Processing is a proven technology and the most widely used MEMS inertial sensing technology in the world'.

'The second 100 million was shipped in just two and half years as our business moves rapidly beyond airbag systems'.

'The innovation and commercialisation expertise realised to bring the airbag accelerometer to its level of prominence over the past 10 years can be leveraged to bring MEMS technology to larger markets like consumer products', said Roger Grace, President, Roger Grace Associates.

'The array of high volume consumer product applications is staggering and handheld devices alone are expected to exceed 600 million units in 2005'.

'MEMS inertial sensors are expected to play a major role by enabling new functionality and enhancing ease-of-use'.

Analog Devices is the world's largest supplier of MEMS inertial sensors.

As a preferred supplier in the automotive industry, iMEMS Motion Signal Processing technology is used in over 160 car platforms worldwide for safety critical applications.

The company offers a wide range of motion signal processing solutions with a portfolio of high-g, low-g accelerometers and gyros that span the price performance spectrum.

Providing unparalleled quality, reliability, performance, and low cost of ownership, analogue Devices ' iMEMS inertial sensors are rapidly becoming the sensor of choice in the growing field of consumer and industrial product applications.
