Analog Devices has released its ADSP-TS101S TigerSHARC processor to production operating at an industry-leading 2.4GMACS and 1.8GFLOPS

This positions ADI's TigerSHARC processor as offering the highest floating-point and fixed-point DSP performance available. Targeted at numerous signal processing applications that rely on multiple processors working together to execute computationally intensive real-time functions, ADI's TigerSHARC processor is well suited to video and communication markets, including the 3G cellular and broadband wireless basestations, as well as defence, medical imaging and industrial instrumentation.

"Earlier this year, we announced that Analog Devices would deliver the industry's highest floating-point and fixed-point DSP performance", said Brian McAloon, Group Vice President, DSP and System Products, Analog Devices.

"With the announcement of our new 300MHz TigerSHARC processor, Analog Devices delivers on its promise, reaffirms our TigerSHARC processor's position as the premiere architecture for multiprocessing applications, and extends its industry lead in DSP performance".

At a 300MHz clock rate, the ADSP-TS101S offers the DSP industry's best 1.8GFLOPS and 2.4GMACS 16bit fixed-point performance as well as a 32bit floating-point 1024 complex FFT time of 32.9us.

The ADSP-TS101S offers a complete set of on-chip features such as a large 6Mbit internal memory, 14-channel zero-overhead DMA engine and 1.8Gbyte/s I/O throughput.

Analog Devices reckons its TigerSHARC processor offers the best-in-class performance in terms of MACS and FLOPS delivered per watt, per dollar and per square inch of PCB space.

The processor embodies a breakthrough static superscalar architecture that boasts native support of 1, 8, 16 and 32bit fixed-point and floating-point data types on a single chip.

TigerSHARC processor's two types of integrated multiprocessing support (link ports and a cluster bus) enable glueless scalability and unmatched I/O performance.

The 32/64bit cluster interface enables scaling of up to eight devices into a DSP system without the need for bridge chips or supporting logic.

In turn, the link ports provide a high bandwidth point-to-point multiprocessing connection that is complementary to the cluster multiprocessing.

A complete set of TigerSHARC processor documentation, along with ADI's VisualDSP++ integrated development tools, is available today enabling all aspects of DSP hardware and software development.

ADI's TigerSHARC processor is currently available and priced at $199 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities and can be ordered under the part number ADSP-TS101SAB2-100.

The operating case temperature range is -40 to +85C.
