New from Analog Devices, the AD7782/83 24bit sigma-delta ADCs are read-only to make interfacing simple for low-frequency measurement and low-power data acquisition applications

The AD7782 and AD7783 are part of Analog Devices' family of high-performance sigma-delta convertors for industrial applications - such as sensor, temperature, pressure and leakage measurement - and portable instrumentation applications. Both convertors tolerate high source impedances, due to an onboard differential input buffer that permits high source resistance and capacitance without causing errors.

Users can choose either low- or high-level signal operation through an onboard, two-setting pin-programmable gain amplifier (PGA), without having to change the voltage reference value.

The AD7782/83 are complete analogue front ends for low-frequency measurement applications.

The AD7782 has two differential input channels, whereas the AD7783 has one differential input channel and two matched 200mA current sources.

The input channels on both converters are configurable with gains of 1 or 16 allowing full-scale input signal ranges of +/-2.56 V or +/-160 mV from a 2.5 V differential reference input.

The AD7782/83 have a simple, read-only digital interface that can be operated in master mode or slave mode.

There are no on-chip registers to be programmed.

The input signal range and input channel selection are configured using two external pins.

The devices operate from a 32kHz crystal with an on-chip phase-locked loop generating the required internal operating frequency.

The output data rate from the parts is fixed via the master clock at 20Hz and provides simultaneous 50 and 60Hz rejection at this update rate.

A peak-peak resolution of 18bit can be obtained at this update rate.

The AD7782/83 operate from a single +3 or +5V supply.

When operating from +3V supplies, the power dissipation is 2.85mW.

Both the AD7782 and AD7783 are available in 16-lead SOIC and TSSOP packages for $5.10 in 1000-piece quantities.
