AMI Semiconductor (AMIS) has expanded its European foundry service capability resulting from the recent acquisition of the mixed signal activities of Alcatel Microelectronics. The 4 and 6in wafer fabs in Oudenaarde, Belgium, complement AMI Semiconductor's existing 5 and 8in fabs in Pocatello, Idaho. The ISO/TS16949 certified facility in Oudenaarde is able to support mixed-signal, high-voltage and RF technologies plus legacy products and customer specific process installations.

Methodology knowhow, advanced processes and extensive application knowledge, enables AMIS to address a wide range of applications in markets such as automotive, medical, industrial and communications.

AMIS offers a turnkey service that accepts prime designs in GDS-II format and provides wafer manufacturing, test, and/or assembly of finished devices.

Extensive experience in project management and fab processes enables AMIS to provide comprehensive support to customers and ensure on-time delivery of high quality, cost efficient semiconductor solutions.

Established partnerships with both MOSIS and Europractice allow customers to access AMIS processes and methodology when developing new products and producing prototypes or small production runs.

Once a design is proven and ready to move into production volumes, the relationship between MOSIS or Europractice and AMIS ensures the minimum risk of design distortion associated with changing fabs.

The flow also saves development resource and accelerates time to market.

"With certified broad-ranging capabilities and the ability to support projects through delivery of tested and packaged devices, we are confident of building long-term relationships with OEMs, design houses and fabless companies", said Ignace Borde, Foundry Business Unit Director, AMIS Belgium.

He continued: "With facilities in both Europe and North America, we are in a strong position to support projects on a global basis".

AMI Semiconductor is a member of the Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA), an organisation that supports the ongoing symbiotic relationship between fabless semiconductor companies and suppliers.

Vivian Pangburn, Director of Marketing and Membership at the FSA commented on AMI Semiconductor's foundry capabilities saying: "The extension of AMI Semiconductor's foundry services will provide further emphasis and momentum for the fabless business model within Europe".
