Abacus Polar has added 2.4GHz IEEE802.15.4-based and ZigBee-ready devices to its portfolio of wireless solutions, following the acquisition of Chipcon, a world leader in this space, by its franchise Texas Instruments. Chipcon was first with a 2.4GHz IEEE802.15.4 compliant and ZigBee-ready RF transceiver, and also introduced the world's first true System-on-Chip ZigBee-compliant solution.

Abacus Polar will also be offering Chipcon's range of proprietary low-power and high-performance CMOS RF ICs for 300 to 1000MHz and 2.4GHz ISM frequency wireless applications.
According to Semiconductor Marketing Director Glenn Jarrett, the new range is highly complementary with Abacus Polar's established portfolio of low power analogue and microprocessor solutions, and rounds out its portfolio of wireless technologies.
He said: 'IEEE802.15.4 and ZigBee are gaining increasing traction in the market, and we are excited about the opportunity to engage with customers on them'.
'We already offer low cost proprietary point-point technologies, as well as higher-datarate standards-based solutions such as Bluetooth and wireless LAN'.
'The addition of Chipcon's solutions allows us to discuss the full range of wireless communications options with our customers'.
Jarrett added: 'ZigBee is commonly used in battery-driven systems, alongside low power microcontrollers, displays and other solutions'.
'Abacus Polar already represents the top franchises in these domains - allowing us to populate the whole of a customer's ZigBee board'.
