ZFoundry and 1st Silicon (Malaysia) have unveiled the latest progress in their partnership to develop A18 Technology, an advanced automotive technology for deep submicron processes

ZFoundry and 1st Silicon (Malaysia) have unveiled the latest progress and future milestones of their partnership to develop A18 Technology, an advanced automotive technology for deep submicron processes. Progress to date includes the creation of simulation models and running test silicon. Major components of the mixed-signal design flow are expected to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2005 including synthesis, floor planning, verification and PCells for all active and passive primitive devices.

Looking ahead, the companies expect to run R and D multiproject wafers (MPWs) in January 2006.

Built on 1st Silicon's proven 0.18um FC process, A18 Technology is the first 0.18um system on chip foundry technology to come to market optimised for the demanding requirements of the automotive industry.

A18 Technology will make it possible to design high-density SoCs with a long product life, while taking advantage of leading edge processes and competitive Foundry pricing.

'Since we entered this partnership with 1st Silicon early this year we have made remarkable progress'.

'The A18 project is on track to deliver a design and manufacturing process that will meet the mixed-signal needs of the automotive industry now and in the future', said Thilo von Selchow, CEO of ZFoundry.

Dr John Nelson, Chief Executive Officer of 1st Silicon added: 'Our close collaboration with ZFoundry has given both companies the opportunity to deliver our A18 process transfers efficiently'.

'The strong support of these robust engineering teams although located in different time zones (Dresden, Germany and Kuching, Malaysia) is not an issue'.

'The resourcefulness and proficiency of the teams working 24/7 is the driving factor in expediting this project'.

Lead customers wishing to take advantage of the A18 Technology are able to design on ZFoundry's C7D process and 1st Silicon's 0.18um FC process now and migrate their designs to A18 when it goes into production in 2007.

The A18 project represents a significant investment by both companies.

The collaboration brings together ZFoundry's expertise in automotive design, high-voltage processes and quality manufacturing with the advanced process knowledge and production skills of 1st Silicon.
