A range of low voltage bipolar transistors extends the power handling capability of the SOT23 package, enabling designers to shrink products by replacing larger SOT89 and SOT223 equivalent parts.

A range of low voltage bipolar transistors from Zetex Semiconductors extends the power handling capability of the SOT23 package, enabling designers to shrink products by replacing much larger SOT89 and SOT223 equivalent parts Using its advanced lead frame design and bipolar process capability Zetex is offering two NPN and two PNP devices, each capable of dissipating up to 1.25W

The ZXTN23015CFH and ZXTN25020DFH NPNs have collector-emitter voltage ratings of 15 and 20V, respectively, whereas the ZXTP23015CFH and ZXTP25040DFH PNPs are rated for 15 and 40V operation.

Handling continuous currents up to 6A, the transistor series enables significant increases in power density to be made, and by supporting pulse current peaks up to 15A, it provides the ability to drive higher capacitance MOSFETs and IGBTs at much higher speed in power supply applications.

Also characterised by their very low saturation voltage - 30mV at 1A collector current for the 15V NPN - these SOT23 bipolars make highly efficient switches for battery powered equipment and ensure heat dissipation is kept to an absolute minimum.

The transistors' high gain means large loads can be driven by ICs without the need for additional buffer circuitry.

The volume price for the ZXTN25N020DFH and ZXTP25040DFH is US $0.162 for 10,000-piece quantities, and for the ZXTN23015CFH and ZXTP23015CFH are US $0.227 in 10,000-piece quantities.
