Display processor uses FPGAs
Miranda Technologies' Kaleido-X multi-room, multi-image display processor and router is based on Xilinx Virtex-4 FX FPGAs.
Miranda Technologies has successfully deployed its Kaleido-X multi-room, multi-image display processor and router based on Xilinx Virtex-4 FX FPGAs.
Leveraging this family's RocketIO multi-gigabit serial transceivers and high-performance DSP capabilities, Miranda Technologies developed an integrated monitoring and routing solution in a single, expandable chassis.
Miranda Technologies is among a growing number of broadcast manufacturers to realise the inherent flexibility and time to market benefits of programmable logic.
With a dedicated team focused on the broadcast market, Xilinx offers a range of silicon, software, reference designs and IP cores, providing broadcast equipment designers with a flexible, cost-effective and high-performance platform.
Xilinx is also conducting live demonstrations of its solutions for broadcast including connectivity, video over IP, and advanced video development platform, at this week's NAB, Booth SU14609.
"The high speed I/Os capability in the Virtex-4 family was a critical factor to successfully completing such a high-end product", said Jean-Marc d'Anjou, Senior Vice-President, RandD at Miranda Technologies.
"We leveraged a suite of Xilinx products to efficiently bring our product to market -- including software tools and IP".
"We are pleased to offer broadcast technology building blocks for our customers that enable rapid development of systems solutions", said Paolo Masini, Senior Manager of Broadcast Vertical Marketing at Xilinx.
"The Xilinx high-performance Rocket I/O transceivers and digital signal processing blocks enable a high degree of integration for digital processing and digital video effects for the broadcast industry".
As a multi-image processor, Kaleido-X offers the highest level of signal flexibility.
Each chassis can display 96 HD, SD or analogue inputs any number of times, in any size, across eight displays of any resolution and orientation.
As a router, it offers switching of 96 unprocessed inputs to 48 HD/SD outputs for feeding monitors, test equipment and master control or production switchers.
The Xilinx Virtex-4 family of domain optimised FPGAs delivers more options, higher performance and lower power than any other FPGA family available today.
The Virtex-4 FX platform features the industry's only dual 32-bit embedded PowerPC processors running at up to 450MHz and delivering over 700 Dhrystone MIPs each, while providing a three-fold performance advantage over processors in competing FPGAs.
