No fab no barrier to Wolfson growth
Wolfson Microelectronics is celebrating its 50 millionth device shipped since becoming fabless in 1996
The company reckons this demonstrates conclusively that it is possible to deliver complex, mixed-signal semiconductor technology in high volume to quality and cost sensitive consumer applications. David Milne, Managing Director at Wolfson Microelectronics said: "Our average throughput has ramped up to more than 600,000 per week since July 2000 - despite the deep industry recession over the last nine months".

He added: "Our strong partnership with Atlantic Technology since 1997 has been a key factor in this success.
We celebrated our 10 millionth device from Atlantic just 15 months ago - demonstrating how much our throughput has increased.
Their ability to ramp up production at this rate is a major tribute to their stringent quality criteria and quick turnaround.
Quality is built into every step of our processes and we demand better than 99.5% yield".
Jeff Baloun, Managing Director of Atlantic Technology said he was delighted to have reached yet another a major landmark with Wolfson Microelectronics.
He said: "Atlantic Technology has continued to invest in new technology to meet the requirements of evolving markets which are set for major growth into 2002.
These include wireless applications and mobile communications.
We have also leveraged our substantial capability to achieve mass-market volumes by establishing a North American subsidiary and achieving QS2000 certification".
