Wind River aims for vertical focus
Wind River is realigning its business model to focus on vertical markets which represent the key application areas for embedded technology
The move incorporates the release of five vertically focused product portfolios - automotive, aerospace and defence, networks infrastructure, digital consumer and industrial measurement and control. The product portfolios, designed specifically to offer an integrated embedded software solution for each vertical market, will be unveiled at the Embedded Systems Show, London, UK on 15th to 16th May 2002.

The launch of vertical solutions follows Wind River's decision to evolve its business model from a technology-focused business, to a solution business encompassing Wind River technology, precertified code, consulting services and third-party solutions aligned to the vertical markets.
'With the increased use of outsourcing, customers are increasingly focusing on their core competency and looking to companies such as Wind River to supply technology solutions.
Wind River needs to be able to solve customer design challenges better than customers could address them using their own resources.
By aligning our business to vertical markets we are better placed to deliver a solution based approach, and ultimately increased value to customers', said Steve Harris, regional director, Wind River.
The new vertically focused offerings provide developers with an entire software development chain from integrated development environment to RTOS and from predeveloped certified code modules to debug and emulation tools.
Allied with Wind River's services business and its customer support forums this will enable Wind River customers to reduce development time and ultimately time to market.
