Arcom Control Systems has joined Wind River's WindLink Partner Programme and will develop joint technology demonstrations as well as pursue comarketing efforts with Wind River

Arcom has also launched a VxWorks BSP development kit for its popular 300MHz SBC-GX1 embedded PC. The VxWorks BSP development kit helps engineers achieve rapid application development by including all the drivers to support the on board features and to execute VxWorks-based applications directly from the embedded Flash.

The Flash memory interface has been configured specifically for the SBC-GX1 and is implemented as a DOS compatible driver using Datalight's FlashFX filing system and wear levelling driver.

Other BSP drivers support the MacPhyter Ethernet controller, real time clock, watchdog timer, CompactFlash and the GPIO functions.

The BSP also includes Geode GX1 graphics controller support for the WindML 2.0 multimedia library, the Wind River Media Layer driver supporting a range of resolutions and color depth for CRT, flat panel and simultaneous CRT/flat panel modes.

The SoundBlaster drivers and analog touchscreen support enables the use of VxWorks for a wide range of multi-media and user interface applications.

Arcom used Wind River's Tornado II development tools to build, test and validate the board support package (BSP) for the SBC-GX1 single board computer.

"Wind River is committed to working with WindLink partners like Arcom to support the broad spectrum of VxWorks and tools developers", said Caroline Yao, director of partner solutions at Wind River.

"The Development Kit is another step in our joint effort to boost performance and speed the time-to-market of communication and control technology applications".

Arcom's SBC-GX1 VxWorks BSP development kit includes the SBC-GX1 fitted with 32Mbyte of DRAM, 16Mbyte of Flash, a power supply, cables and a comprehensive utility CD.

An optional NEC 6.5in TFT display option is available.

The Quickstart installation manual describes how to rapidly build a VxWorks image, download to the target using Ethernet and run a demonstration application.

The SBC-GX1 single board computer is powered by the National Semiconductor 300MHz Geode processor and offers CRT/flat panel graphics, 10/100baseTx Ethernet, four serial channels, SoundBlaster support, analogue touchscreen input (via a serial port) and 16Mbyte of resident Flash memory.

The VxWorks BSP development kit is fully operational when combined with Wind River's Tornado II integrated development environment (IDE) and WindML multimedia library.
